An eye is
always constantly on the lookout, and watching for the latest gossip, news and
information about the school, which can be told through the magazine itself. I
decided to use a bold font for the masthead as it will stand out and is also
clear to readers as they can see it from a distance as well as up close. The
font is formal so it can represent the school as academic; I also decided to
place the masthead typically at the top of the magazine, as this is where the
masthead typically goes.
We decided
to use an image of an eye instead of using the word, this is use of
intertextuality as it is being linked to something else, in this case a human
eye, and this is unique from other magazines and means that the magazine may
become memorable due to this added feature
We decided
to go for a long shot as we wanted to capture the whole image including the
background, this is not typical as a normal magazine shot is normal a medium
shot. The idea behind going against conventions is that she is placed at the
top of the steps as this can connote a ‘climbing the ladder of success’. The
model also smiling and her mode of address is looking directly into the camera
which is engaging to reader as it hooks them in
The 3-colour
principle is not used on out magazine cover; this is because of the background
image not being dull. Also there is a bin visible in the background of the
image, which connotes dirt and rubbish giving a bad impression of the school.
In the
header of the magazine the font is very squashed which is unprofessional but
could not be altered. Black and white have been used for the font colours
however these colours can be connoted as dull and boring and also the use of
white clashes with the dull coloured steps this makes it hard to read. Due to this
it may put readers off the magazine as they may feel they can’t read what the
magazine has to offer and also may seem unprofessional.
The cover
lines are supposed to be appealing for our target audience, which are the students
and parents of the school. The first cover line is ‘3 ways to get A’s’ I think
this is catchy line as it is really appealing to young students and uses rhyme.
It also gives 3 bullet points as well which could draw the readers in and then
make them want to buy the magazine.
Sell lines
have also been used which I believe will hook the reader into purchasing the
magazine. The main sell line is ‘head girl,’ this has been illustrated with an
image of a head girl badge this uses intertextuality of the badge and is professional.
In the header
there is an included link to the school website, so if people were interested
and wanted to find out more information than they could have a look. We have
also included the typical things needed for a magazine such as the price and
month of the magazine issue. We have also included the barcode on the front
cover to give it the final professional look.
