This is a typical pop magazine as it is fun and very full on for the reader, as they won’t be able to miss it.

Pink is the most dominant colour, which connotes that the magazines target audience is girls/women, this is also backed up by the mast head having a heart in it, a heart is typically girly. Pink signifies girls and this links in with the cover lines and main image as these are also aimed very much so at the female gender. The other colours that are used meet the three colour principal, they have used black for some of the cover lines this colour give the impression of professionalism. However black does not stand out as much as pink so these may be seen as less important than the writing in pink. Although, some of the black writing appears to be highlighted in yellow this automatically stands out more than the other cover lines that are not highlighted automatically giving them a bigger emphasis.

The masthead is not typical as it is not across the whole of the top of the magazine, instead it is slanted and to one side of the magazine. This suggests that the magazine is an iconic magazine, as it doesn’t meet typical conventions such as an immediate landscape masthead across the top. This is effective as it is different and for someone who regularly buys this magazine it becomes easy to find when looking for this specific item. There is use of intertextuality as they have used a heart in the masthead and this has added effect to the iconic branding of the magazine. Also the fact that the masthead is in a speech bubble shows it is gossip, like a typical woman, and this may be used as bait to the female audience.

The main image has a typical direct mode of address to the audience, which hooks in the reader as it becomes personal. However, it is a medium shot as you can see the models upper body and there is a main focus on her face due to the images and text around her being increasingly busy, so this directs the reader to look straight at her face. The image also sits comfortably to the right of the magazine, but also slightly to the centre. This has allowed the cover lines, thumbnails and masthead to all fit in accordingly to make the magazine look professional.

There are a few thumbnails around the page to add to the cover lines and make these more dramatic and enticing to the reader. The images are all typical for the target audience, as they have used images of clothes and two iconic boy bands this adds to the girly persona of the magazine.

I will try and include such details of the image and colours in order to fit my target audience’s needs when I make my rock n roll magazine.
