The front cover has typically one central
image; this makes the model the main focus point of the magazine straight away.
They have used an iconic model, Taylor Swift, who is well know for her musical
talents, and this will straight away create a target audience of her fans as
well as the normal buyers of the magazine. The shot they have used is a long
shot; this is UN typical of magazines as the normal shot for a main image is a
medium shot. However this shot has been used as an image of perfection, the
reader can see her whole body and this is used as bait to the audience feeling
the need to look like this and that if they purchase the magazine they may
achieve these looks. The model has a direct mode of address to the reader and this
can be seen as personal, therefore engaging the reader to purchase the
magazine.
The sell lines used are all aimed at a
specific target audience as they all link to feminine things such as ‘style
fixes for every figure’ and ‘the bad boy appeal’, these leave enigma thoughts
in the reader and entices them to buy the magazine to find out more.
The magazine keeps the three-colour
principle by the use of pink, white and black fonts, this keeps a simplistic
but catchy, professional look to the magazine and is not to busy for the reader.
The colours also meet the needs of the target audience as pink and white are typical
girlie colours.
There are four different types of
typography used on the front cover, the masthead stands out the most, as it is
large and in a bright pink simple font, we know straight away that the magazine
is iconic as the models head blocks out on of the letters but you still know
what it is saying. The other fonts used
do not stand out as much but are all used to add an elegant, feminine, touch. For
example the italic writing looks classy and the bold writing stand out to grab
the attention of the reader.
The target audience ranges from 19-35 year
olds that are female, this is due to the sophistication of the magazine meeting
the needs of older generation and also because of the expense.
